Obstacle lighting

Thanks to years of experience in servicing and beaconing offshore oil and gas platforms, our client has been able to develop into a specialist in aviation obstacle lighting. A successful development which currently enables us to meet the international demand for a high-quality, reliable obstacle light for marking or beaconing high obstacles such as wind energy turbines, tall buildings, bridges, telecommunication masts and high-voltage pylons.

High demands

As already mentioned, quality and reliability are essential for safety, which is why our customer places high demands on their supplier. After extensive screening of its reliability, quality, capacity and financial health, VDL Kunststoffen was ultimately selected as the best partner for further development of this product and we are quite proud of that.

Guidelines

Because the lanterns must comply with the guidelines specified by the international authorities (FAA, ICAO, etc.) at all times for safety reasons, it is extremely important that the light is installed correctly (completely flat and level), that it is watertight, that it continues to function at permanently high temperatures and that the material can withstand large temperature fluctuations.

Lean manufacturing

To improve business processes in a targeted way, minimise downtime and ensure maximum reliability in terms of quality and delivery, we use the so-called lean manufacturing concept in this project. This concept enables us to involve our employees more intensively in the process, allowing them to actively think about possible alternative solutions for streamlining our production processes with the aim of guaranteeing quality* and reducing costs.

* Meanwhile, the first tests have been completed and we have been able to conclude that, thanks to the lean manufacturing concept, the product more than meets the various specifications.
